Once upon a time, there was L'Aiglon ...

At the end of the 19th century, in 1889, Mr. François Bayon, a military tailor, made a supportive belt for men. Although he wasn’t aware of it at the time, this would be life-changing.

His belt was a real innovation and was very successful. Mr. Bayon, a fervent supporter of Napoleon, was inspired to create his own brand of belts, which he decorated with the Imperial Eagle (“aigle” means “eagle” in French) as a tribute to Napoleon his son, Napoleon II, who was known as “L’Aiglon” (the eaglet). This nickname was connected to his father, who was nicknamed L’Aigle (The Eagle) after a poem written by Victor Hugo in 1852.

The historic Imperial Eagle evokes strength, elegance and refinement.

The highest standards and innovation are essential in the life of a brand. L’Aiglon has always been ahead of the times. Always at the cutting edge of both techniques and fashion, L’Aiglon’s creations have always kept up with trends and techniques in luxury accessories. L’Aiglon quickly expanded its range to offer braces, ties, cuff links, scarves, including silk scarves, watchstraps, wallets and bags … for both men and women.

Almost 100 years later, Dominique Vigin took over L’Aiglon. He has given the brand international impetus and has positioned it as a market leader in all five continents.
Aiglon has since merged with Collaert, a firm specialising in making belts for prestigious companies such as Lacoste, Lanvin, Azzaro and Balmain, and other leading fashion houses.

2009 saw the 120th anniversary of the brand and the opening of its first boutique in Paris, right in the heart of the Madeleine area.

It’s a charming shop, with an authentic atmosphere and masculine colours, recalling its unusual history and heritage. It is situated at number 16, Rue de l’Arcade, just behind the famous Madeleine Church, which was originally built as a temple to the glory of the Great Napoleonic Army! The boutique is a nod to history and a new stage in L’Aiglon’s romantic story.
